This sign calls the nearby Northern Distributor Road, which will carry extra traffic if the development proceeds, the “pothole distributor” while a previous sign labelled the Northern Distributor Road the “Birdsville Track”.
One of the most vocal opponents of the development, Susan White, said she didn’t know who had erected the last two signs but hoped as many people as possible saw them before they were removed from the Orange council-owned land.
The previous two signs were removed within days of being erected.
“It’s nothing that we have co-ordinated, but it makes a point,” Mrs White said.
Mrs White said she expected Orange councillor Scott Munro, who works at the North Orange Shopping Centre, to see the latest sign and pull it down.
“It’s just good that people who see it know what people think about the development.”
Mrs White said her online anti-McDonald’s development petition, launched last month, had been well received with around 400 people pledging their support.
In the next few days Mrs White is also planning a letterbox drop in north Orange, Clifton Grove and other areas of Orange, outlining objectors’ concerns over the proposed site.
Mrs White said she hopes to get as many people as possible to come to council’s sustainable development committee meeting on August 20 when council will decide if McDonald’s will be given approval to proceed with construction.
