For the last 25 years the rights to put on the production have been tightly regulated and only offered to professional companies.
This year four opportunities were given to companies in Australia and New Zealand.
Director Peter Young hopes they can do the classic production justice.
“It’s the pedigree of this show, until now it has been untouched and unavailable,” he said.
The production will include a cast of 40 and prospective cast members are invited to an information night at the Band Hall in William Street on March 24 at 8pm.
“I don’t want people to be turned off by how big this production is,” he said.
“Honestly the calibre of this show will attract performers of all kinds.”
The show is due to take off from October 18.
“It’s going to be an amazing experience,” Mr Young said.
