The flight was due to depart at 7.30am local time but passengers were kept inside the plane due to a technical problem.
A passenger on the plane contacted The Age via email and said conditions were “seriously dangerous”.
He said people were becoming sick and there was no air conditioning.
The passenger, who did not wish to be named, claimed that more than 250 people had been forced to wait on the plane for four hours before they were allowed return to the airport terminal.
“We sat in horrendous conditions onboard as they kept turning off the aircon,” he said. “It must have gotten near 40 degrees onboard.”
“[The] first announcement was that in-flight entertainment was not working, then [when] we pulled away from gate the major issues started.”
Jetstar has been contacted for comment.
