Playing at Riawena Oval, Conn came in at number three and worked his way to 82 to help Orange City to 236.
Orange City captain Dave Boundy said things didn’t look great but the side finished well.
“We started poorly. We were 3-33 and then 5-95,” Boundy said.
“It was good to see the tail wag again.”
Conn stayed strong as Matt Findlay (20), Dave Boundy (2), Shaun Grenfell (25), Stuart Naden (3) and Scott Rosser (12) fell.
Conn was eventually bowled by Louis Kostoglou as City’s seventh wicket but Jono Warren (35) helped the total at the end.
Tom Rolfe made an impression with his left-arm medium pace for Kinross taking 3-14 from his six overs on debut in the top grade.
Chris Gavin took 2-41 from his 16 overs while Charles Litchfield (1-11), Kostoglou (1-20), Nick Shillington (1-39) and Sam Nicholls (1-41) claimed one apiece.
After 76 overs in Saturday’s oppressive humidity, the Kinross batsmen were reluctant to go back out.
Nick Duffy opened the batting and was removed for a duck.
Sam Nicholls (5 not out) and Andrew Litchfield (8no) were still in the middle at stumps with Kinross at 1-13 after four overs.
Nicholls is unavailable for the second day’s play and Kinross have already used their two substitutions so they are effectively 2-13.
Kinross player-coach Andrew Litchfield was happy with the his side’s performance.
“Our boys bowled well. The guys stuck to their task really well,” Litchfield said.
“We cut off a lot of balls, which could have gone for boundaries, with desperation fielding.”
Litchfield knows his players will have to perform to make 237 for the win, especially with only 10 batsmen.
“Next week will be an interesting run chase. If we bat the full 80 overs we can probably get that total,” he said.
The two sides will return to Riawena Oval this Saturday for the second day’s play.
