Cathy Miao, 9, Matthew Blanch, 10, and Owen Cooze, 14, received their scholarships at last week’s end of year Orange PCYC musical concerts.
Musical activities coordinator Robin Thompson said the scholarships helped recognise their talents and provide the performers with a great opportunity.
“They’ll have one-on-one tuition instead of group tuition,” she said.
“It’s just so much more intense and rewarding because you have now have one-on-one time with the teachers.”
Nine-year-old Matthew Blanch has been playing drums for four years.
“It’s very fun and it sounds good,” he said.
Matthew will receive $750 worth of private tuition from Orange teacher Rocky Rochelli.
His mother Karina Blanch said receiving the Landers Music Scholarship for her son was a great help.
“We’ve got five kids so free lessons go a long way in a big family,” she said.
Owen Cooze received the Ionian Club of Orange scholarship to help him continue playing the trumpet and recorder.
Cathy Miao won the Claire Humphrys scholarship which ensures she’ll keep playing the violin.
Musical scholarships are awarded twice a year by the Orange PCYC and Mrs Thompson said they would not be able to do it without the generosity of their sponsors.
