Western went through its Southern pool matches in Wagga Wagga on the weekend unbeaten to earn a place in this month’s final.
On Friday, Western started with a 10-run win over Riverina before downing Southern by 44 runs on Saturday.
Western finished on top of the Southern pool with a 24-run victory over Illawarra on Sunday.
“The key was we improved in certain aspects over the three days. We also excelled in other aspects,” Colley said.
“Still, I don’t think we should be satisfied. We’ve still got one more effort.”
Western will take on the Northern pool winner, to be decided this weekend, in the final on November 25.
Colley performed well with the bat for Western over the three days making 75 against Riverina, 53 against Southern and 25 against Illawarra as opening batsman.
“I was happy with the way I batted,” Colley said.
“I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t cash in on my 70 or 50. The most pleasing part was I suppose I set up our team each day for a total we could defend.”
Fellow Orange player, Liam Gough, also delivered for Western Zone taking 10 wickets over the three days.
The 17-year-old took 4-29 against Riverina, 3-22 against Southern and 3-23 against Illawarra.
“”Credit to Liam,” Colley said.
“I think part of it was he didn’t change too much. He bowled what he knows. It was a bit of an education for him - a 17-year-old at the country championships. He was a bit like a sponge and took everything in.
“He bowled decent areas and guys couldn’t get him away. On Sunday he got two vital wickets.”
It is 99 per cent certain the NSW Country Championship final will be played at Orange’s Wade Park, something Colley is particularly happy about.
“In two weeks we have to go and build from what we’ve done this week,” he said. “Hopefully we play on home turf and that would be an extra motivator for the boys.”
