Flu nothing to sneeze at

BEFORE the winter sniffles get you down now is the time to get a flu vaccination an Orange general practitioner (GP) said yesterday.

With cold frosty weather here to stay Doctor David Howe said there are a few target groups that should receive a vaccination.

“Those with a chronic illness especially asthmatics and diabetics,” he said.

People over 65 years old and indigenous people over 55 years old should also receive their annual flu vaccination Dr Howe said.

The Central Western Division of General Practice program manager Bryan Hoolahan said it is never too late to get your flu vaccination.

“Vaccination is the number one way of preventing getting the flu and the earlier you get it the better,” he said.

Mr Hoolahan said those who have regular contact with young people are at risk of catching the flu.

“Young people are the super spreaders of disease ... their immune systems are new to this,” he said.

“Make sure you see your GP and get the proper health checks.”
