Man charged with vicious assault

POLICE have charged a Parkes man with the violent assault in April of a 51-year-old woman in her home.

Police from Task Force Scoble charged the 27-year-old man at 2.40pm on Friday.

He appeared in a sitting of Parkes Court on Saturday and was refused bail. He is in Wellington Jail awaiting a hearing in Orange today via audio link.

He has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and break and enter with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

The Parkes woman, Sonia Eldridge, was violently assaulted at an address in Medlyn Street, and has been in a serious condition in a Sydney hospital ever since.

She was unable to speak to police due to the seriousness of her injuries of two broken arms, fractured skull, lacerations to her face and the loss of vision in her left eye.

Task Force Scoble was especially established to investigate the violent assault.

Police made the arrest after finally speaking to the woman on Thursday afternoon.
