THE final stages of an upgrade to Peisley Street hit a snag on Saturday when machinery ripping up the surface of the road broke a tap on a pipe connected to the water main.
Water was seen spouting up into the air after the incident when the profiler clipped the pipe and workers covered the pipe with a truck.
Council spokesman Nick Redmond said the accident had cost some time on the project affecting the western lane but the eastern lane was finished.
“It’s still quite wet but we’ll have it opened today [Sunday],” he said.
“We’ll be finishing off the work tomorrow.”
Work was expected to be completed this weekend with the final 50 millimetre layer of hot mix asphalt added.
The project involved the removal of 300 millimetres of road pavement, stabilisation of the base and laying limestone based gravel.
