Film night fundraiser to help save forests

Former Orange resident Elizabeth Bargwanna said she hopes to raise awareness in the community about deforestation with a movie night fundraiser.

Ms Bargwanna said the region has a small environmental group presence however she believes more education is needed.

“I am really hoping to encourage people to gain more knowledge about the greater issues associated with removal of rainforests and the effect it has on wildlife,” she said.

Ms Bargwanna said she would be embarking on a trek to Borneo to witness first hand the effects of illegal logging in the country.

“I hope to be an ambassador for these types of issues.”

The movie night will be held on May 27 and all profits will be going to Greenpeace.

“I intend to raise as much money as I can to assist Greenpeace in raising awareness to try and stop the deforestation of many of our beautiful rainforest areas in Borneo and throughout the world,” she said.

Ms Bargwanna said she would be funding her trip to Borneo herself but the money raised will go to a range of different Greenpeace projects.

Oscar Award winning A Separation will be the featured film. For more information email liz.borneo@gmail.com
