Conran ties for second in Japan

ORANGE professional Steve Conran has finished in a share of second in The Crowns tournament on the Japan Golf Tour.

The Orange professional led after the second and third rounds on the Nagoya Golf Club Wago course but was caught on Sunday by IJ Jang.

Jang’s final round four-under 66 allowed him to pass Conran and finish with an eight-under 272 total.

Conran, and Yoshikazu Haku finished tied for second with six-under 274.

Conran made a great start to the tournament with rounds of 66 and 65 on the par-70 course.

He was still playing well on Saturday and was on track for another sub-par round but a horror back nine killed those chances.

He bogeyed four of his last six holes to record a three-over 73 but he still had a share of the lead.

On Sunday he delivered another see-sawing round to finish with an even par 70 but it wasn’t enough for the win.

The 45-year-old won $AUS120,000 for his share of second.
