Orange Show short on sheep pens

LESS than a week before the show, Orange Show Society’s sheep pens have mysteriously disappeared.

Volunteers were setting up the sheep pavilion at the Orange Showground on Saturday when they noticed about 50 panels of fencing for the pens were missing.

Show Society president Peter Naylor said the society would have to borrow pens from somewhere else if they could not be found soon.

“I’ll have to go to another society or the field days, and we don’t know how many we’ll need until Thursday or Friday because we leave the entries open. I’m running out of time,” he said.

The Show Society is not sure when the panels disappeared as they haven’t had any need to use them for some time.

Mr Naylor said it was unusual for so many to have been taken.

“We get a few vandals there every now and then. We have lost a couple over the years, but it’s a shock to see how many,” he said.

Mr Naylor will notify Orange City Council and hopes someone may be able to help the Show Society solve the mystery.

“Someone may have seen a truck or a ute. It would have been a couple of ute loads of pens,” he said.

Orange Show will be held on May 5-6.
