GYMNASTICS
Gymnastics NSW sports and events manager David Vial was in Orange yesterday meeting with members of the Orange PCYC gymnastics club and Central West Gymnastics as well as Orange City Council and Orange PCYC representatives.
Vial said things were really starting to take shape for the competition.
“All the entries are starting to come through,” Vial said.
“We’ll put a timetable out shortly so people know when their events are on. We’re trying to arrange contacts. We want to use local guys for everything.”
The competition is expected to attract a huge field as it will cover a variety of disciplines within the sport.
As well as men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, there will be NSW Country titles up for grabs in rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining and acrobatic gymnastics.
Vial said to expect some great competition.
“It will be fairly strong. There are some good competitors around,” he said.
The men’s competition could attract some top gymnasts as the second round of the men’s grand prix will be held during the championships.
The championships are an open event and Sydney gymnastics can compete but cannot win country titles.
One area Gymnastics NSW is wanting to organise as soon as possible is volunteers.
The event will need a number of volunteers to help marshal events, usher spectators and cover the entries.
The NSW Country Championships will be held at the Orange PCYC from July 12-15.
