Greens leader starts healing tour in Orange

AS part of her commitment to “mending the relationship between the Greens and the bush” newly elected Greens leader Christine Milne will head to Orange tomorrow.

Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham will join Senator Milne on her tour of the region. Mr Buckingham said Orange was a great location to start the healing process.

“Orange is a regional hub full of dedicated farmers with sustainable farming methods already in place,” Mr Buckingham said.

“It is strong area for Christine to engage with rural issues.”

Mr Buckingham said it was important every government recognised the needs of farmers as they helped maintain food security for the nation. He said Senator Milne would use this opportunity in the central west to talk with graziers and orchardists about their concerns.

Mr Buckingham said part of the tour would include meeting with representatives from Renewable Energy Corporation to discuss renewable energy alternatives for the central west.

Mr Buckingham said Senator Milne's tour of Orange was just one of the first steps to fulfilling her commitment to the bush.

“We would like to engage with issues such as a fair market place, issues concerning free trade and issues about biosecurity,” he said.
