Rally motoring along with 10 grand already

IN the first 48 hours on the road the Cruisin’ Along rally has raised almost $10,000.

“On Friday night at Nyngan we ran raffles and there was an auction and we raised $5000,” said mayor of Orange John Davis who is taking part in the rally again this year.

“Then on Saturday night we had a great reception in Lighting Ridge raising around about the same amount of money,” he said.

“It is very heartening to know we are getting this kind of response in just the first 48-hours,” he said.

Cr Davis said the 33 crews in the rally are talking to people along their outback route explaining the reasons for the rally - to raise the funds to build the second stage of Western Care Lodge for radiotherapy patients being treated in Orange.

“We have also been talking to people about the ongoing costs and the challenges we will face even when the building funds are raised for the next stage.

“There will be the continual maintenance costs we have to face,” he said.

This year a target of $70,000 was set for the rally, however before the vehicles left Orange on Friday it was announced more than $60,000 in sponsored ship had been raised

Yesterday the crews drove from Lightning Ridge to Charleville where they stayed last night.

Today it’s on to Thargomindah.
