Mr Arantz said he was thrilled to have taken this year’s title.
“It is exciting, being a national award I’m not really sure of the ramifications,” he said.
Mr Arantz said the award recognised the restaurant’s commitment to using fresh local produce.
“We’re always looking for more local producers,” he said.
During the judging process representatives from Country Style visited his restaurant at least twice in the past year, without disclosing their identity until they left.
Mr Arantz said he expected the award to help Racine continue to attract visitors from throughout Australia, many of whom have read about the restaurant in publications such as County Style.
Five weeks ago Racine opened a bakery and patisserie, headed up by Andy Lantzakis, supplying goods for a limited number of outlets including Byng Street Local Store and A Slice of Orange.
Country Style editor Victoria Carey said Mr Arantz’s win was proof that a “new life beyond the cities is not only desirable but also viable”.
“Shaun’s win shows regional dining is on a roll as pioneers are joined by a second wave.”
