Mulga Bill on wheels

A GROUP of local teenagers will learn the true meaning of teamwork when they take part in a 24km bicycle ride on Sunday.

Five participants in OCTEC's Links to Learning program will take part in the Mulga Bill Festival Fun Bike Ride from Cumnock to Yeoval.

Links to Learning is funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training and targets teens struggling to complete high school.

They meet at OCTEC's Croagh Patrick site once a week to take part in practical activities with two tutors to assist them with future employment.

"In conjunction with our partner school, The Canobolas Rural Technology High School, we aim to assist young people to remain in education and training pathways by enhancing self-esteem, employability skills, positive personal attributes and by developing an attitude that learning should be a life-long process," Links to Learning program coordinator Christine Thompson said.

Christine said taking part in Sunday's fun ride is one way the participants can be involved in the community.

"They are really excited about seeing new areas of the district," she said.

"It's a chance for them to do something they would otherwise not have the opportunity to do."
