AFTER one of the worst days in the club's history last week, Orange City bounced back to finish their Blowes Menswear Cup season on a positive note with a 91-15 win over Wellington in Orange on Saturday.
The Lions forfeited second and third grade and lost first grade against Dubbo Kangaroos last week, something captain Shane Kennelly said was motivation for the Wellington match.
"I'm sad that I was part of what happened in Dubbo, but after today we can be positive for the future," Kennelly said.
City were too strong in the second half for the lowly Redbacks, who finish the season with two wins and a draw.
"It's just disappointing we didn't play like that at the start of the season in a few games," Kennelly said.
The Lions finish the season on 44 points in eighth place, nine points outside the top five.
Kennelly missed the second half of the match after injuring his hamstring in the first scrum of the game.
"I told the guys that front rowers aren't meant to pull hamstrings, that's what backs do," Kennelly joked.
In the huge win nearly all of the team crossed for five-pointers, with hooker Josh Tremain, fullback Ben McAlpine and forwards John Gander and Dom Westgeest starring.
The big win was also coach David Blunt's final game in charge after two seasons in the position.
"He'll be missed. Everyone has had a few problems this year, but David has been there all the time," Kennelly said.
"He's got personal commitments next year so he said he can't make the commitment of coaching, but I have no doubt he'll be at every game next year."
The club hopes to appoint coaches for all four grades in coming weeks to begin building for next season.
The only disappointing note was that City had to forfeit third grade, showing the lack of playing depth at the club.
l Central West has delayed announcing its semi-final draw because of a clash with the Group 11 rugby league grand final in Dubbo.
Dubbo Kangaroos are scheduled to host the elimination semi-finals in Dubbo next Sunday at No 1 Oval, but the ground is being used for the league grand finals on the same day.
Walmer Park in Bathurst will host the major semi-finals.
