Beau Jacob Annis-Brown, 26, of Avondale Drive, transferred money from an associate's bank account and then abused and threatened them when they asked for the money back.
On May 29, the victim was at Orange Hospital with a sick child, and at 11pm the victim drove to a petrol station to buy some items for the child but their card was declined due to insufficient funds despite there being money in the account earlier in the day.
The victim logged onto their electronic banking and saw that Annis-Brown had transferred $240 and $1300 from their account into his.
The victim tried to call him and he phoned back but refused to give the money back.
"I've done this before, the coppers can't prove s***," Annis-Brown said.
The victim hung up and a short time later Annis-Brown called and said "I'll be at your house in 15 minutes c***, meet me out the front".
The victim asked if he was threatening them and he said, "I'll do more than threaten you, I'll burn your house down c***".
The victim hung up and took children from the house they were at to a friend's place.
The victim then went to the police station and while police were taking their statement Annis-Brown called again.
"I'm out the front of your house now c***, come outside, I'll kick your f***ing head in," he said.
Police went to the victim's home but Annis-Brown was not there so they went to his house and he got out of a car that arrived soon afterwards.
He pleaded guilty but unsuccessfully tried to change his plea to not-guilty on the day of sentencing.
Magistrate David Day gave Annis-Brown a seven-month jail sentence with a three-month non-parole period for the intimidation.
The sentence took into account Annis-Brown's age and restrictive jail conditions brought about by COVID-19. He could be eligible for release on October 28 and he will then be subject to a 12-month community correction order for taking the money.
