On Friday the Orange icon was given $40,000 for restoration work on the verandah, but the bigger boon is the likely approval of a development application for a lift at the back of the venue.

Duntryleague board chair John Cook said meetings this week had indicated the DA would be approved with the tower for the lift as-is, but minor adjustments may need to be made to other parts of the application.

"We got some good news [on Thursday], there's been nothing confirmed yet but they've agreed the DA part of the lift is fine and they're going to put that through as we asked," Mr Cook said.

"There were some alterations made to the extensions at the back they're not comfortable with, so the only thing left to do is sort out the dorm situation on the top floor and the air conditioning. The lift was the most important part, we had some ladies here a few weeks ago who said 'we've been coming here for 15 years, but this is our last year and said they were struggling with the stairs'."

Mr Cook said they told him "if you put a lift in, we'll be back the next day", and others had been inquiring about them for some period.

"The main thing from the foundation point of view we want the money to preserve the building ... once we get that DA approved we can go and get more funding options," he said.

The $40,000 grant will go towards restoring and repairing part of the verandah around the left hand side, with new lacework to go on the building. Guttering, brickwork and rotting timbers will also be replaced and restored.

"It'll all be done by local tradespeople and it's a very important part of tourism in Orange to have buildings like this to draw people to the town," Mr Cook said.

"They might not stay all the time but pretty much everyone visits it to have a look at it. If you stay over the weekend there's a lot of traffic which comes through here."

The $40,000 grant, presented on Friday, will go towards fixing gutters, replacing rotting timbers and potentially replacing brickwork if needed, while also fitting some new lattice.

Member for Orange Phil Donato, who handed out the funding, said it was "always enjoyable handing out money" across the region.

"This is an iconic building in Orange visited by tourists and golfers coming here for functions and weddings and school formals, accommodation," Mr Donato said.

"It's great to be able to ensure these iconic buildings get funding to preserve and maintain and get them in their best possible condition."

The development application is likely to spend more time in the pipeline before being officially ticked off, but verandah repairs are due to start shortly.
