City cleans up at Tidy Towns awards

ORANGE’s efforts to be environmentally responsible have paid off, with the city named one of the big winners at this year’s Tidy Towns sustainable communities awards.

The awards celebrate the efforts of rural NSW communities to create a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

Orange won the waste management and litter reduction category for Orange Christian School’s litter reduction and recycling program.

It also took out category prizes in the water conservation section for Orange City Council’s wetlands project and the Orange Health Service’s Wayfinders program.

Keep Australia Beautiful NSW acting CEO Bernie Murphy said the awards were highly respected in regional NSW.

“Through partnerships and the participation of government, councils, community groups, businesses and volunteers, great things can be achieved,” he said.

“We congratulate the winners for their efforts.”
