ORANGE’S baby boom of October 2011 has not been repeated this year.
Records were set last October when 102 babies were born at Orange hospital, however, the spike appears to have been a one-off, with only 82 babies born last month.
Overall, however, there has been an increase in births, with 811 babies born so far this year, compared to 802 for the same period last year.
“Our midwives have certainly been kept very busy this year,” a hospital spokesperson said.
Ninety-four babies were born in August, making it the busiest month of 2012 so far, while 65 babies were born in June, making it the quietest month so far.
First-time mother Jessica Orford-Walker gave birth to Anthony McLeod Robinson on July 27 at Orange hospital.
He is one of 75 babies born at the hospital that month.
“I had a long labour and it was uncomfortable,” Ms Orford-Walker said.
“But I was very well looked after out at the hospital,” she said.
