The firefighters arrived at the blaze in Tumbeelluwa Place, near Mirral Way at 11.58pm and had extinguished it by 12.30am.
Police arrived at 12.20am to find a white Toyota Landcruiser on fire.
Witnesses had heard a loud noise about 11.45pm and when they looked out the window the interior of the vehicle was on fire.
According to police, the fire appeared to have started after an unknown person or people gained entry to the vehicle and ignited a fire in the driver’s side foot well.
Lock your cars
Police from Canobolas Local Area Command are urging vehicle owners to lock their cars after a spate of break and enters into cars on Thursday night.
The car break-ins occurred in the Coronation Drive area, mainly between Orange High School and the Kinross Wolaroi School PLC site.
Police have noticed that most of the break-ins were opportunistic because the vehicles had been left unlocked.
Police are reminding people to keep their cars locked.
All above board at licensed premises
Licence premises were targeted in Orange on Thursday night as part of a state-wide police operation.
Police from Canobolas Local Area Command were pleased with the result in Orange with no problems found.
