Robertson Park rotunda, the Blind Pig and Hotel Canobolas were among the venues to host talented singers and musicians as part of JAM Saturday’s Live and Local event.
Athalia Sutherland shared a mix of original material and covers in a morning show at Chateau Du Chocolate on Lords Place, an afternoon performance at The Grocer and Co Organics on McNamara street and an evening soiree at Washington and Co on Summer street.
The singer even ducked down to Manildra between sets to watch her brother and partner kick off the football season.
“The energy levels are starting to drop a little,” Miss Sutherland said prior to her final performance.
“It’s so great to see all the different genres performing today though – we’ve such a diverse mix of talent in Orange.”
Miss Sutherland said the city streets had the feeling of a music festival.
“I used to take part in the Tamworth music festival and playing today has sent all the memories flooding back.”
The 20 year old indigenous solo artist grew up in Orange and starting singing at age six alongside her older siblings Tjnara and Jacob.
Miss Sutherland’s achievements include singing the national anthem in the Wiradjuri language from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to open Australia Day in 2015.
The initiative between JAM Orange, Orange City Council and Live Music NSW set out to get as many musicians on as many stages around town as possible in the one day.
