The student representative council is handing over a massive collection of chocolate Easter eggs to St Vincent de Paul’s Vinnies Van, which will be distributed to children around Orange next week.
For six years running the school students have been resisting the strong pull of chocolate temptation to give children who are less fortunate an Easter treat.
Teacher Bill Rollo said the chocolate egg collection helps students recognise the importance of Easter to the Catholic school.
“It brings them closer to the community and helps them understand how important it is to give,” Mr Rollo said.
The student council is responsible for organising the easter egg donations, which volunteers will hand out with dinner packs on the Vinnies Van Monday and Wednesday runs.
St Vincent volunteer Barry Frecklington was at the school to collect the eggs on Friday.
Barry’s wife Rosie was the brains behind the bunny idea six years ago.
“We have between 80 or 90 children collecting dinner at the van every Monday and Wednesday night,” Mr Frecklington said.
“They’re as happy as Larry when they get their eggs.”
