Music fans in Orange have been urged to get behind the city’s bid to host a major musical concert that would attract a crowd of 10,000 people and generate about $1 million in tourism revenue.

The bid backed by the Orange Ex-Services’ Club, Orange City Council and Orange Region Tourism has been lodged for the Triple J One Night Stand event.
One Night Stand is an all ages, drug and alcohol-free show with free entry that has seen top Australian artists including Silverchair, Flume, Hilltop Hoods, Tash Sultana and The Jezabels perform in regional centres since 2004.
It was last hosted in NSW in Dubbo in 2013 and before that Cowra in 2007.
Music lovers Ben and Jessica Coster said it would be a great event for Orange.
Mrs Coster said they moved to Orange from Sydney in 2016 and missed the big concerts Sydney hosted.
Mr Coster said people should be pushing Orange’s case.
“Getting on the Triple J Facebook site and telling people about Orange wouldn’t hurt,” he said.
Orange Region Tourism general manager Caddie Marshall said people should use the hashtag #TripleJOneNightStandOrange to promote the city’s bid.
“I would encourage everyone to get behind it on the Triple J Facebook site,” she said.
Ms Marshall estimated the show would generate about $1 million for local businesses from people from out of town needing accommodation, food, drink and fuel.
She said it would also help provide entertainment for teenagers in Orange.
Ex-Services Club community engagement liaison Ashlea Pritchard said the gig would be at the Orange Showgrounds.
“We’re looking at September,” she said.
“The shortlist applications will be announced in April and the winner will be announced in May.”
She said the full list of applicants had not been announced but she understood Orange was the largest city in contention.
Council’s sport and recreation committee chair Cr Jason Hamling said it would be an economic and social boon for Orange.
“Previous events, like when Silverchair played in Cowra, have been an absolute success for regional areas,” he said.
Cr Hamling said the national event would be a “great showcase” for Orange.
Concert goers would be asked to make a gold coin donation with funding going to Housing Plus.
CEO David Fisher said the funds would go toward building a crisis centre for victims of domestic violence.
“About a million dollars has been raised so far, we have another $900,000 to raise,” he said.
