Long distances on flat roads, other cars, B-double trucks, kangaroos, wombats, fatigue – there’s no shortage of hazards.
On Thursday, there was another hazard to add to that list after Live Traffic NSW reported the Great Western Highway had traffic slowed near Katoomba by rogue watermelons.
A truck lost its load of watermelons just after 11am on its journey from Sydney to our part of the world, colliding with a wall and spilling its sweet, juicy cargo all over the asphalt.
The watermelons are now on the loose, and while authorities are yet to warn people not to approach the fruit we wouldn’t be taking any chances.
With rockmelon listeria claiming six lives in the past month and now this, maybe we should give melons on the whole a miss for a little while, just to be safe.
