“I believe you build it, you drive it,” he said.
Mr Keniry owns a 1934 Ford hot rod that he takes on rod runs and has displayed at several Southern Cross Street Cruisers car shows in Orange.
The car has an original wooden body that was built into a hot rod in about 1972 using the mechanicals from a then-current model Ford Fairlane.
“It is all steel and timber,” he said.
“They don’t wobble around as much as the modern cars.”
It was painted bright orange in 2003, a colour used on Ford Falcons that year.
“I wanted to do it before its 70th anniversary.”
He said he enjoyed driving and showing the car.
“It’s been on a couple of rod runs,” he said.
“The shows give you a chance to get the cars out and about.”
The 13th annual Southern Street Cruisers car show and the 12th annual Swap Meet will be held at the Orange Showgrounds on Sunday.
It is a great chance for hunters and collectors to sift through all kinds of stock including car parts.
Organiser George Georgiou said the gates opened to the public at 9am with a $2 entry fee.
People wanting to display their car or bike should arrive between 6am-9am and will pay a $15 entry fee.
The gates will open for swappers at 5am.
He said there was a variety of goods on sale.
“It’s a bit of everything for everyone,” he said.
Mr Georgiou said sale items ranged from mobile phones and computer parts to children’s toys and clothing.
“I’ve had a lot of car people and bike people contact me,” he said.
He said free overnight camping was available at the showgrounds from Saturday afternoon.
“This is a family orientated swap meet and charity car show with no alcohol on the grounds,” he said.
He said about 140 cars and bikes would be on show which would be a bigger show than last year.
Food and drink will be available at the grounds canteen.
