The blaze occurred at The Rocks, around 20 kilometres west of Bathurst.
“Firefighters from responded to bush alight this afternoon on the Mitchell Highway at The Rocks,” a post on Eglinton Rural Fire Service’s brigade’s Facebook page said.
“A section of bush, approximately one hectare in size, was alight when crews arrived on scene.
“Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze and render the scene safe.”
A small fire was started in the Canobolas zone – just a week after the catastrophic Mount Canobolas blaze – by “grinding/welding of a fence”.
A total fire ban was in place for Orange and the Central West on Sunday due to hot, windy conditions.
The total fire ban ran for a 24-hour period from midnight and was effective in the Orange, Bathurst, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Lithgow, Mid-Western and Oberon council areas.
With a series of large bushfires burning in Victoria, the NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone took the opportunity to remind residents of the importance of obeying the fire ban.
“This includes slashing grass, welding and grinding in the open,” a post on the brigade’s Facebook page read.
According to the page a small fire was started in the Canobolas zone – just a week after the catastrophic Mount Canobolas blaze – by “grinding/welding of a fence”.
A thank you day is being planned to acknowledge those who fought the Mount Canobolas and Belerada Creek fires.
It will take place at Robertson Park on Saturday, April 14.
