That pretty much sums up Michael Wherritt’s knowledge of Cowra Golf Club.
Wherritt and his Dubbo side faces a huge test in this weekend’s Central West District Golf Association pennants division one final against the defending premiers, Mudgee.
Throw in the fact the Dubbo players don’t know too much about the Cowra course, the location for the finals, and it’s suddenly even harder.
“I haven’t played there for about 20 years,” Wherritt said after Dubbo’s semi-final win over Forbes.
“I know some of the others have had a hit there more recently but we’ve all got rangefinders and stuff like that so we’re just going to have to play smart.”
Wherritt, the undefeated Nick Coggan, Mat Brown, and father-and-son duo James and Matt Gleeson will make-up the Dubbo team.
Mudgee is led by one of the region’s best in Mark Hale.
“There’s a bit of a rivalry match set up now,” Mudgee captain Matt Stanley said of Dubbo.
“We just need to have three good matches but that will be tough.”
One thing Stanley’s men don’t know about this weekend’s clash is what order Dubbo will play its golfers and if it will even bother matching up its best competitor against the undefeated Mark Hale.
“When they beat us they put their weakest player against ‘Haley’ and just took it as a write off,” he said.
“That’s how good he is in the district. There’s probably only a few blokes who can beat him.
“Last time they threw their tactics into it and focused their energy on two, three and four and it paid off.”
Regardless of what Dubbo decides to do on the day, Stanley is focused on one thing and one thing only.
“It doesn’t matter who’s up against who. We just need to have three good performances,” he said.
Division two sees Mudgee take on Bathurst while Orange’s Wentworth plays Bathurst in division three and Wellington takes on Forbes in division four.
All finals are played at Cowra on Sunday.
