The 2018 women’s and men’s City of Orange Veterans Classic champions were crowned following Thursday’s final day at Duntryleague and Wentworth Golf Clubs, respectively.

Consistency proved the key in the women’s division as Belmont’s Karen Mcllvenie emerged victorious, averaging a tick over her handicap across the three rounds to triumph with a 54-hole total of 106 points.
She won by just two points from Woolooware’s Jill Roach, who finished second with 104 and survived a countback too.
Shoalhaven’s Cameron Fraser, the 2015 and 2016 champion, justified the pre-tournament hype by claiming the men’s scratch award, with 91 points playing off two.
He won from Morisett’s Phil McAllef on 85.
Jim Addison claimed the handicap title with a superb 115 points, the Wentworth Falls B grader averaged almost 39 points across the three rounds.
He won by six points from Port Macquarie’s Lance Sykes, who carded 109, a pretty impressive 54-hole total in itself.
Kareela’s Nola Maughn claimed the women’s A grade trophy with 104 points, just missing out on the overall runner-up prize on a countback too.
She played well all week to hold out Duntryleague’s Michelle Paul on 101.
Marion Hunt, from Toowoomba’s City Golf Club, carded 102 points to claim the B grade gong by a solitary point from Bayview’s Ann-Maree McDivitt on 101.
Manly’s Penny Barry had an excellent week to win the C grade title with 98 points, triumphing by three points from Cessnock’s Maureen Donaldson on 95.
Graeme Walker took advantage of his local knowledge to win the men’s A grade scratch award with 76 points, while Maclean’s Jeff Miller carded 104 to seal the handicap award.
Wollongong’s Ross Field was strong across the three rounds and carded 56 scratch points to win the B grade award, with Shoalhaven’s Grant Sinclair sealing the handicp win with 106.
City’s Chris Hunt carded a three-round total of 45 scratch points to win C grade’s trophy, while Nelson Bay’s David Dirss won the handicap with 104.
The massive field finished the week-long tournament off with a social, friendly 4BBB medley stableford on Friday.
