Although the exact pointscore was unavailable at time of publication, it’s widely acknowledged that Orange Cycle and Triathlon Club, Mudgee and Bathurst are the three remaining contenders, with the latter taking the tag of favourites into the final round.
The Piranhas are expected to be will represented at Dubbo with the likes of Jack Bilton, Rory Thornhill, Jessie Dean and Jess Richards all performing well this season while Bathurst may well be led by champion athletes Mark Windsor and Nick North.
Mudgee’s Matt Webster is another athlete of note who is expected to compete.
But the host club’s president, Jason Dearmer, says it’s actually a battle between two locals that seems to be garnering a lot of the interest leading in.
“We’ve actually got two committee members who haven’t been competing directly against each other but have been very close,” he said.
“Ben Orford and Daniel Roberts seem to chase each other in all three legs and I know they’ve been working really hard on what some of their weaknesses might be.
“They’ll be ones to keep an eye on.”
A strong showing from Dubbo athletes is expected on Sunday. The likes of Orford and Roberts, as well as Jennifer Raines, Dave Gerrish, Tim Barnes and Emily Messner have all performed well around the region and are expected to figure towards the top of their respective divisions again this weekend.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from Dubbo Triathlon Club members and others who do triathlons on more of a casual basis,” Dearmer said.
“We’ve also got a teams option so if you’ve wanted to do a triathlon but you’re not the strongest rider, swimmer or runner then you could just do one or two legs and recruit someone to do the others.”
There will also be a junior under 18 race for aspiring athletes to take part in.
As always, the Dubbo course something different compared to other courses around the region.
“Each club has an individual course with strengths and weaknesses,” Dearmer said.
“Some run from a pool or a lake and I think the Dubbo one is quality and the good advantage is there’s the river and that makes it unique.”
The main Inter-Club race consisting of a 500m swim, a 18km bike ride and a 4km run.
Racing start at 9.30am on Sunday.
