Shortly after 1am, police were called to the East Street home where a 90-year-old man had been threatened by the intruder carrying a knife.
The man’s 87-year-old wife was also home at the time of the incident, and thankfully both were unharmed.
The perpetrator gained entry to the home by breaking in through a window at the rear of the house, and left with cash and other items.
Orana Mid-Western Police were called to the scene to commence investigations, and on Tuesday afternoon one of the city’s highest-ranking officers said no stone would be un-turned in pursuit of the offender.
“I’ve got a lot of resources allocated to this one, for obvious reasons,” crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Rod Blackman said.
“It’s a very serious offence. There are elderly people in our community that deserve to have absolutely every resource thrown at this particular serious matter.
“With the resources we’ve got allocated we certainly hope to identify this person.”
The offender is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 165-170 centimetres tall with a slim build and was wearing dark clothing.
Chief Inspector Blackman said he believes there are people within the community who will be able to assist.
“These things often happen with other family members or people knowing who the offenders are, or certainly having suspicions about what people were up to in the wee small hours of the night,” he said.
“I would certainly call on members of the community, people particularly over in that area, that may know who this person is, to let us know as soon as possible.
