Calls for action over dumped rubbish, broken signs on streets | Photos

An old fridge and couch sit in the kerb. Broken street signs lie around a trolley full of rubbish. Toys are strewn over an empty block.

The amount of rubbish dumped in two streets in Glenroi has led to calls for action.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said it had been in Orchard Grove Road and Raines Place for months.

“The piles of rubbish just keep growing,” she said.

The resident said the rubbish should be cleaned up by the Orange City Council because it was on the street.

“We want that pile of rubbish removed because it is encroaching on the road,” she said.

“We want [Housing NSW] to make the people keep their houses tidier.”

Cr Jason Hamling said he would raise the problem at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

He said it was a “tricky” problem for council.

Former councillor Neil Jones, who is a member of the Glenroi Community Group, said the rubbish and damaged houses in Glenroi were major problems.

“This is a huge opportunity for council to show leadership on the issues in Glenroi,” he said.
