Council crews spent last week completing road work in a 400-metre section, finishing off a project which began late last year.
Spokesman Nick Redmond said storms before Christmas saturated several sections of the gravel foundations and crews were aware they were not ready for the the final sealed surface.
“Normally, the stage of sealing the road would have been delayed and these sections would have been turned over and allowed to dry out,” he said.
“However it was decided there was a greater benefit to road users to get the contractor to add a temporary bitumen gravel seal to last during the extended Christmas shutdown period.”
Reworking the underlying gravel pavement began last week as planned and the final bitumen-gravel seal will be added on Tuesday, weather permitting.
