While most of those were NSW Rural Fire Service aircraft deployed to fight the Mount Canobolas and Gowan fires, others have had a sleeker look.
Up to five Black Hawk helicopters have been flying over Orange, as well as Canberra and Sydney, since February 5 as part of an aviation training exercise.
The training is being conducted to ensure the Australian Defence Force (ADF) maintains the highest level of preparedness to respond to support national interests.
The exercises are being undertaken to ensure pilots and aircrew are well trained for flying in all conditions across urban and rural areas.
Flights have occurred during the afternoon and evening, generally concluding by 11:30pm.
Some flight paths may be low and unavoidable noise may be noticeable for short periods.
Residents should not be concerned if they hear or see these activities occurring.
The ADF acknowledges that these activities may result in possible disturbances to local residents, however this disruption is minimised wherever possible.
The ADF thanked Orange and the district’s residents and businesses for their patience and continued support during this important training, which will cease on Thursday, March 8.
