This year, there’s a chance to double it with two opportunities to join the team to clean up Orange.
The first chance to help clean up the city is on this Sunday between 10am and 1pm at Hill Park off Spring Street.
Mayor Reg Kidd said this year’s clean-up was spread across two weekends to encourage more people to participate.
“Orange has a reputation as one of the most beautiful inland cities in Australia and it would be great if we could all band together to keep it that way,” Cr Kidd said.
“Last year we had 70 volunteers show up with their gloves on to help clean up Orange and this year it’d be great if we could see 140 people turn up.”
The second event is on March 4, at Moulder Park and Blackman’s Swamp Creek, with registration taking place in Elephant Park from 10am.
Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chair Kevin Duffy said Clean Up Australia Day was a great opportunity to get out into the community and meet new people all the while doing something great for the environment.
“It’s becoming quite a popular event with young families,” Cr Duffy said.
“We’re expecting large numbers again this year, particularly large number of young people which is wonderful to see.
“There will be a free barbecue on both days and we’ll provide garbage bags and spare gloves if you need them.”
Private businesses and schools are also encouraged to register sites which may have become a litter hotspot.
Sites can be registered on line at www.cleanupaustralia.org.au.
