Organisers voted unanimously in favour of cancelling the event at a committee meeting on Tuesday night, sighting safety as the major concern.
National Parks and Wildlife is currently assessing the damage to tracks with cleanup efforts underway once proper approval is received.
The 11km race would usually start near Towac Pinnacle Picnic Ground, passing through little used forest roads and bush tracks to take in Mt Towac (1350m) and Young Man Canobolas (1330m) before ascending to the summit of Mt Canobolas at 1397m – a climb of 520m.
Organisers are hoping that plans to introduce an additional shorter race will now be implemented next year. 2017 refunds are available.
