NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler, legends Danny Buderus, Steve Menzies and Nathan Hindmarsh ran a clinic at Waratahs Sports Club as part of the 2018 NSWRL Hogs For The Homeless tour.
The tour takes the group to 16 regional towns over 10 days to raise funds for Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Streets initiative.
“We’ve stopped in Orange almost every year since 2013 so the kids know we’re coming and a good crowd get down to the clinics,” Nathan Hindmarsh said.
“A few of us are getting on a bit in age now but the kids still recognise us from the tellie,” he said.
Mr Hindmarsh said the boys didn’t pass up the chance to visit an Orange pub while in town, chatting to residents on both sides of the bar.
“Getting into country towns, meeting locals and finding new places to visit is something we all enjoy, but it’s not just about us getting on the road,” he said.
The group has fundraised through sponsorships and the raffle of a Harley Davidson Iron 883.
Since its inception in 2013, Hogs For The Homeless has raised almost $600,000 for Youth off the Streets.
The tour includes clinics in Glen Innes, Lennox Head and Queanbeyan, attending tournaments in Uralla and Leeton, a visit to a school for children with disabilities in Tumut and returfing the Wellington rugby pitch.
