The 21-year-old was chosen unopposed for the position at the branch’s annual general meeting on Thursday, where she spent more than two hours talking to members to find out what they wanted from a representative.

Ms Quinn will go up against Orange City councillor Tony Mileto, who was endorsed by the Orange branch. The Forbes branch also has the option to endorse an candidate.

“I am very keen to hear from members and find out their views, it was important to me that I wasn’t the one doing all the talking,” Ms Quinn said.

“I’ve lived in Parkes nearly all of my life, my family has been in Parkes for eight generations so I am a real local.

“In the coming weeks I will write to members across the electorate and I want to hear from as many as possible too.”

Road safety, better transport links and mental health are some of the big issues Ms Quinn plans to campaign on.

“I work as a mental health support worker and we need more equitable health services,” she said.

“There needs to be more outreach services for small communities but it is also important we have people in those communities.

“I think getting stronger road links and improved road safety is really important. A lot of my peers have been affected by accidents and something has to be done about it.”

Despite being relatively young in the world of politics, Ms Quinn did not think age should be a disadvantage.
