Mirfin has four horses set to race at his home track at Bathurst on Monday with Keymaster out to impress in the Watermart Country Class 2 Plate (1400m) before a potential crack at the $150,000 Country Championship Central District Qualifier at Mudgee next Sunday.

Winterconi and Repenant will also be in action but it’s the lightly-raced Jetgirl who Mirfin is keen to see contest the Central West Electrical Maiden Plate (1100m).

Jetgirl showed plenty of promise when running second on debut at Bathurst’s Tyers Park on February 11.

She will jump from barrier seven of nine on Monday with leading jockey Mathew Cahill in the saddle.

“I think she did well during the week, so I’m looking forward to seeing her run again,” Mirfin said.

Regardless of where Jetgirl finishes, the filly will be set for a spell.

“She’s only a young horse. The breed by a horse called Nicconi, they are a breed that tends to be a bit more on the fragile side,” he said. 

“I’ll give her a break after Monday and bring her back in six weeks.”

Keymaster will also have Cahill in the saddle later in the meet.

With 18 starts and a benchmark rating of 64 after a win and a second at Bathurst this preparation, Keymaster is firmly in the Country Championships frame.

On Monday he will take on the likes of fellow Championships hopeful Bel Diablo, the talented three-year-old trained by Mudgee’s David Smith, and Exquisite Halo, trained at Dubbo by Lee Lunn.

The first of the seven races at Bathurst’s Tyers Park jumps at 2.05pm.
