The markets were held as part of the Banjo Paterson Australian Poetry Festival, which this year is coinciding with what would have been the iconic writer’s 154th birthday.
Banjo Paterson Australian Poetry Festival chairman Justin Byrne said it was a very successful event with perfect weather and a good crowd.
“Our estimates are that it was about 3500 [people], or something like that, judging on gate takings,” Mr Byrne said.
“It’s not quite as large as the other [night markets] but I thought the weather was perfect and music was great.”
Mr Byrne said the musicians Chloe and Jason Roweth played Australian music throughout the evening, with a few breaks for bush poetry recitals, while people sampled food and drinks from the 29 surrounding stalls.
“I think we were aiming for 25 so we were happy with 29 for the size of the crowd, it was the right size,” he said.
On Thursday the festival will continue with breakfast and poetry in Robertson Park from 7.30am to 9am and there will be an open mic style Australian poetry evening at Heifer Station Wines on the Escort Way from 6pm to 10pm.
