While there will be a host of international drivers looking to claim victory in Sunday’s Bathurst 12 hour, Will Davison feels like he has a home track advantage when competing at Mount Panorama.
A Supercars regular and two-time Bathurst 1000 winner, Davison boasts more laps of the iconic circuit than many of those who will line up for the 12 Hour.
The Melbourne native will race for the Audi Sport Team WRT in an R8 LMS alongside Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana and Mathias Lauda.
“It’s always a special place to come. It’s funny for us Supercars guys, we’re here in October and it’s such a big event for us,” Davison said. “[So] We feel like we are in our backyard on this circuit, even though there are so many different elements in this race.”
Davison, who placed third outright in the 2014 Bathurst 12 Hour, and his team-mates will be pushing for a Pro-Am podium come Sunday evening. Amongst his rivals are his brother Alex, who will steer a Porsche 991GT3R.
But while racing against his older brother, Davison wishes him every success.
“He’s one of the cars we will be trying to beat, but it is a great opportunity for him and I hope he has a great run,” Davison said.
“He’s got a great car, great co-drivers, he’s got a shot at a good result and so do we, hopefully we’ll be on track together at some stage.”
This year marks Davison’s fourth Bathurst 12 Hour start, but he still has to adjust from racing a Supercar to sitting behind the wheel of a GT.
He has previously raced an Erebus Mercedes Benz SLS and a McLaren 650s for Tekno Autosports.
“These cars are really different, and give a real buzz, they do everything a driver would ever dream of,” Davison said.
“Ten years or more in a car and your style just goes towards one style of race car, so it’s good to get into a different car and have to learn to adapt.”
There will be two qualifying sessions on Saturday, with Davison’s team in action from 11.05am-11.50am.
