Then on Friday, January 26 Tom Goolagong told his story about the decimation of his race from an estimated 750,000 before the arrival of the First Fleet to around 60,000 Indigenous Australians left in 1920s.

Not a nutter, spoiler or ham actor in sight, Denis, just a concerned Indigenous person telling us about our/their past.

As Mr Goolagong said “whether Indigenous or not this is your history”, which means you, Denis.

Australia Day is an important day in our calendar. It is a time to remember our history and to reflect on where we are heading as a nation.

It is time to reflect on our values and adjust them as may be in accordance with our past and in terms of the direction in which we wish to head in the future.

Judging by the numbers who marched in protest on Australia Day in Melbourne, the tide is turning.

Here is a hypothetical, Denis: China invades Australia on May 1 and becomes the governing body. They decide to select May 1 as their ‘Australia Day’.
