Kerry Foster, a third of the Friends Assisting the Community trio, said it all started with a raffle.
“We raised so much money for the hospital that they asked us to come back and help out again,” she said.
Mrs Foster and Robyn Colley said one of their proudest moments this year was raising the funds to purchase hospital equipment, which detected if women were at risk of giving birth prematurely. The machine meant pregnant women no longer needed to drive to Sydney.
“We want people to be at home with their families, not stuck in hospitals,” Mrs Foster said. “It’s all about helping people recover quickly and get home to the ones they love.”
Mrs Foster and Mrs Colley said they had butterflies in their tummies while the awards were announced. The ladies said that while they were excited to win, they wouldn’t be taking time off to sit around congratulating themselves.

“We have a brass band celebration coming up,” Mrs Foster said. “We’ll be selling teas and scones for two days to raise more money.”
