The Birrang Driver Licensing Access Program is available at no cost to people who are at a disadvantage when it comes to gaining their license, and also helps people with proof of identity, RMS business restrictions and fines.
Birrang accredited driving instructor Julie-Anne McKenzie said class numbers had dropped in the first week, but was hoping to get over 20 people onto their Ls and Ps.
She said the program had been really, really good.
Its been an awesome outcome for people.
Miss McKenzie has been working as far out as Bourke and Albury, and said Birrang has been helping people get their license over the whole of the state.
We give them lessons after they pass their Ls so they can go for their Ps. If theyre over 25 we can book them straight in when theyre ready so they dont have to fill in the logbook hours, she said.
We cover all costs as well.
Eighteen-year-old Faith Bates is looking to get her Ls and said the course was helping her feel she could.
The most useful things is developing our confidence and has been really helpful and been such a good support network, she said.
Being here has developed our understanding of how the road works and getting educated on how the test is before we go.
Just being here has been a great opportunity and is a chance to meet new people and before we go for our test we know what to expect so were quite confident in it.
Its really useful to be here, we know what to expect and its been really helpful because we know more than what we would have known.
Fellow learner Holly Finch said the program was a great opportunity
I thought Id take the chance and take it up Im 34 and I thought it was about time I got my license or at least tried for it, she said.
Its been really good, at first I was nervous and scared and didnt know what to expect, but now Ive done the test a couple of times the nerves have done away and Im feeling good.
Were so grateful for the opportunity and the chance.
