Parahi returns for Australia ahead of Sydney Sevens

Experienced Australian sevens star Jesse Parahi has been recalled to Andy Friend's squad for this weekend's Sydney Sevens tournament at Allianz Stadium.

Parahi, who has been battling various injuries over the past 12 months, and Charlie Taylor are the only changes Friend has made to the squad that finished ninth in the South Africa Sevens in Cape Town.

Matthew Hood and Jeral Skelton have been dropped from the squad ahead of a home tournament for the Australians who will be looking to match their fourth place effort of last year.

"Jesse [Parahi], Charlie [Taylor] and [13th man] Tom [Lucas] all played well in Darwin and have earned their inclusion into the squad," Friend said. "As a squad, it's now about trusting the hard work we've put in over the past six months and enjoying the vibe and excitement about playing on our home turf."

Australia face USA, Canada and Scotland in their pool and will need to win at least two of those matches if they are any chance of replicating last year's success.

"We marked the Sydney Sevens down at the start of the season as one of our target tournaments, so we have an internal expectation to do well here," Friend said. 'It's crucial that we do perform to the best of our ability."

Lewis Holland will captain the side, while James Stannard is set to pull on the boots for a 44th World Series tournament at age 34.
