Station Officer Matt Jeffery said the idea hadn’t been prompted by anything other than giving children an activity in their final week of school holidays.
“It’s pretty casual, it was a last-minute decision,” Mr Jeffery said.
“It gives kids a chance to come along and open lockers, kids can climb on board and have a look.
“It’ll be good to be with the police and ambulance on a day like this.
“When the three of us gather it’s normally for a crisis so it’ll be nice to do something fun.”
Mr Jeffery asked people attending to not park in the velodrome carpark in case any of the emergency vehicles receive a call-out and needed to depart urgently.
The event will run from 11am to 1pm in the velodrome carpark on Sale Street.
