Keeping safe from skin cancer is more important.
Duntryleague and Wentworth golf clubs are partnering with Cancer Council NSW’s Improve Your Long Game program to get members to protect themselves with sunscreen and covering-up clothing.
Duntryleague club professional John Furze said they provided a sunscreen pump at the first and the 10th holes.
“When you play the first nine, you can put it on at the 10th,” he said.
Mr Furze said skin cancer was a major concern.
“It’s surprising how many people have got it,” he said.
Wentworth club professional Todd Brakenridge said sunscreen was a simple way to reduce the risks.
“It’s a long day out in the sun on a golf course,” he said.
Cancer Institute NSW community programs co-ordinator Fiona Markwick said skin cancer risk was higher for men.
“Men over the age of 40 are 1.5 times more likely to be diagnosed with melanoma, and around twice as likely to die from it, compared to women of a similar age,” she said.
