The Andrew Molloy-trained sprinter is one of 130 nominations received for the eight-race Cowra Cup Day meeting, a number Cowra Jockey Club president Craig Hyeronimus is pleased with.
Mr Hyeronimus said he wouldn’t be surprised if Zarhron adds another Japan Cowra Cup to his collection.
“The way he’s racing he’s on target. He raced really well in Canterbury a few Friday’s ago. He finished fourth that’s in the city, it was a good run,” Mr Hyeronimus said.
Winner of that race in Canterbury, Lake Lugarno, trained by Barry Molloy in Forbes, is also among the 18 nominations for the Japan Cowra Cup, as is Danish Lace who is coming off victory in the Gilgandra Town Plate (1100m) on January 7.
The $26,000 Japan Cowra Cup looms as the highlight of the day.
The Cowra Cup has attracted 15 nominations and includes Hawkesbury-based defending champion Uncle Sugar and Gilgandra Cup winner Artistic Beauty, trained at Mudgee by Cameron Crockett.
Race caller Dan Cobby will be making his Sky Racing debut on the day.
Mr Cobby is the riding agent of Sydney-based Cowra jockey Adam Hyeronimus and has been working with leading Melbourne race caller Matt Hill in the lead up to Sunday.
“He’s done some non-TAB meetings but nothing on Sky Racing. He’s really looking forward to it. There’s big wraps,” Mr Hyeronimus said.
There is a chance the meeting could start early due to extreme hot weather.
Mr Hyeronimus said he had spoke to stewards but a decision won’t be made until Thursday.
Fields will be confirmed on Thursday morning.
The Cowra Cup Calcutta will be held at the Cowra Services Club from 7pm on Saturday night with special guests Neil Paine, Wayne Harris and Darren Gauci. Two tickets to the National Jockeys Trust Lunch will be up for grabs.
The Cowra Jockey Club thanks all its sponsors.
